Mijn standplaats is hier. Ik hoef niet zo nodig met het gezin de wereld in. Dat avontuur sla ik over. Maar ik wil wel verder ontwikkelen... machinist, SPMT Operator. Het kan allemaal via de Academy van Mammoet. Ik zit op m’n plek!”
RIGGER
CRANE OPERATOR IN TRAINING @ MAMMOET ACADEMY
“It's definitely a man's world, but I feel comfortable in it. The atmosphere is great, the colleagues are nice. I can recommend it to women. You have to be able to take a punch, but you have to do that everywhere in the technical industry, right? I would like to develop, and at the Mammoet
Academy I can go a lot of different directions. But for now, I am enjoying this job. It’s nice to be outside. I never know in advance where I'll be working, with which team, which job. That's what makes it so cool. For the time being it is often in the region, but I really want to work abroad for a while. But first I need to gain some experience here. In the port, for example. I have a wonderful job!”
“I've been working at Mammoet for four years now. Before this I worked with concrete reinforcement, but there I was stuck in one location and I don’t really like that. I need variety. I started here as a rigger, but I quickly started getting my diploma to become a crane operator. I now have ECOL and TCVT, so I can work both in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. At the moment I work with a 40-ton crane. Sometimes I'm placing antennas, then a dormer window, we do construction work and we're busy in the petrochemical industry. Always something different, never boring. I have opportunities to move on. Initially, I want to advance to work with a 70-ton crane, or maybe bigger. After that, I'd like to become a foreman or supervisor. I'm not done here for the time being!”
CRANE OPERATOR
“I worked as a car mechanic for about six years, but it was not challenging anymore there. It became monotonous. At a good time, my uncle, who works at Mammoet, said, “why don't you come try working with us?” After a tour he gave me here in Schiedam, I applied. It was actually quite a leap of faith, because at first, I didn't think I could do it at all. The machinery was a bit different from the cars I was used to. But I was taken by colleagues and trained in the workshop. I was part of a team right away.
My work is largely in sledding, jacking, water ballast; working on equipment that is not for sale, but that you develop yourself in consultation with manufacturers. Tomorrow, I fly to a big job overseas . I also have a private life, family and hobbies. So, it's not like I do it for this kind of trips. But it's really cool when you've spent some time here in the workshop working on machines and then out there you see what they're doing, how they're doing it and how sometimes you can make them work even better .”
Yes, we could use a lot of technical people. Of course, I also see ads from companies offering you challenging jobs in a technical field. In the automotive industry, for example, or the world of excavators. And there are many more like that. But seriously though, it doesn't get more versatile and challenging than here.”
